Hi I have a question but first the back story. My crown fell off and it's gone (I think I swallowed it). It had fallen off before and had been re-glued on. But it was glued on too high and they made an adjustment to it. During the adjustment they put a hole in the top of the crown. I wore it this way for a couple years. This was a root canal originally. So, yesterday I went to get a new crown made and they x-rayed the tooth / preparation area. The Dentist said the preparation area has decay under it and the old prep would have to come out and a new preparation would have to be made before a new crown could be made. First question, is this possible, the old prep area has to come out? The Dentist said during the new prep a "rod" would be placed in the old tooth area for the prep to sit on. My next question, is this rod thing safe & can it cause me problems? Can it break off later down the road and get stuck in the tooth? Last question, what if down the road I have to go through this again (decay under the prep) and have to re-do the prep, how do I get this rod out then? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve
